McGraw And The Doctors Hit #1 Yet Again

“Watch The Wind Blow By,” the fourth hit single from the album Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors, has reached the top spot on both the Billboard and Radio and Records singles charts. Fans and radio embraced its soulful style, making it the most-played country single in the nation for the second consecutive week. Written by songwriters Anders Osborne and Dylan Altman, this is the third release from the album to reach the number one slot.

The overwhelming success of Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors has been thrilling to watch for keyboardist Jeff McMahon and all of his bandmates. McMahon shares his thoughts on recording this hit song with McGraw:

It was the first time we had ever recorded with Tim; both he and Byron (his producer) really wanted to hear what our ideas were. Well, we had cut the basic tracks for the song…I had already recorded with piano. But I still had some ideas for an organ part I wanted to try, and it turned out really nice. Byron dug the part, and that was the first song I completed for the album.

Make no mistake; it was great when we heard the first single, “Red Ragtop,” on the radio. But it will always be cooler for me to hear “Wind.” I always hear that song and remember playing all those parts for the first time.

The success of “Watch the Wind Blow By”, along with “Red Ragtop,” “My Kind of Rain, and “Real Good Man,” has earned Tim McGraw Music Row magazine’s Artist of the Year award. This recognizes McGraw as the most played artist on the Country Breakout chart for 2003.

The country superstar is quick to share his appreciation for McMahon and the rest of the Dancehall Doctors. “It’s especially gratifying to see the music I made with my band lead the way,” said McGraw. “My thanks to them, all the songwriters, and of course, Byron Gallimore and his team.”
